Something to Watch - Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)

In honor of The Tonys last night, today’s recommendation is not a musical or a play but it is about making one, sort of. Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) is an absolute trip and a seamless 2 hours. It follows Michael Keaton, who plays a washed up actor known for playing a superhero, attempting to remount his career by writing, directing and starring in a Broadway play. This comes with a series of hurdles in the form of narcissistic actors, emotional girlfriends, recovering drug addict daughters and more, played by an all-star cast. It’s funny, cathartic and just incredibly creative. Given that this movie has been out for 10 years and won an Oscar for Best Picture, this film is no secret, but if you haven’t seen it, it’s unique and phenomenal. And if it’s been a minute, a rewatch is beyond rewarding.
