Something to Watch - Thirteen Days

For a Cold War drama, this thing is piping hot. Thirteen Days follows JFK, his special assistant, Kenneth O’Donnell and Bobby Kennedy as they navigate the mine field that was the Cuban Missile Crisis. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the situation, the Soviets putting nuclear missiles in 1962 Cuba was not exactly in the best interest of the United States, and the thirteen day period after discovering those missiles is what plays out on screen.

It stars Kevin Costner in front of an incredible ensemble. It keeps you on your toes. It teaches you. And aside from all the things they changed to make it more dramatically interesting on screen, it’s totally true. Don’t just watch this one because it’s good, watch because it’d be un-American not to.
