Something to Watch - The Instigators

Not all movies have to “make sense” to “be good.” Yes, these quotations are entirely unnecessary. But, that doesn’t change how incredibly necessary Matt Damon and Casey Affleck’s return to Boston was in their latest film, The Instigators. The fairly ridiculous (and we don’t mean that in a bad way) flick brings Boston’s boys back to where they came from with thick accents and a mudslide of perseverance in this enjoyable action comedy.

Along with Jack Harlow, they play cons looking to score on what appears to be a fairly straight forward job. Of course, it’s far from it, and chaos ensues. But what follows is an hour and a half of Casey Affleck one-liners that hardly ever fall flat. Hong Chau also jumps into this one, continuing her pretty remarkable stretch of working with incredible filmmakers. And, you just can’t not mention that Ving Rhames is in this doing his best performance of Ving Rhames being Ving Rhames you’ve maybe ever seen.

If this all sounds great to you, then hop in the car and head to the movies. When you get there, get back in the car and go home to turn on Apple TV+ where this is actually playing and give it a watch.
