Something to Watch - The Substance
Nothing worth having ever came easy and The Substance is no different. In full transparency, it is a tough hang. Perhaps one of the toughest. But damnit it is a worthy one. Starring Demi Moore who is as back as anyone has ever been, alongside Margaret Qualley, the film follows Elisabeth Sparkle (Demi), an aerobics star who is let go on her 50th birthday and resorts to an all-is-lost medical “procedure” known as The Substance.
There’s no sugar coating this one. There is a decent chance that for a large majority of the film you’re just going to have to look away because ewwwwwww. But if you stick around it’s well worth it. This film gives a lot, takes more, and somehow leaves you fulfilled. There’s a good chance you’ve never seen anything like it, so fire it up when you’re feeling ambitious.
